Each year on May 10th, the global community comes together to mark World Lupus Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness about a chronic and often misunderstood condition that affects millions of people worldwide. At TrustBridge Care, we stand in solidarity with those living with lupus and we are committed to providing thoughtful, personalised care that enhances quality of life.
What is Lupus?
Lupus is a long-term autoimmune disease in which the immune system — which normally protects the body from infection — mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. This can lead to widespread inflammation and tissue damage in affected organs, including the skin, joints, kidneys, heart, lungs and brain.
There are different types of lupus, but Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is the most common and serious form.
Recognising the Symptoms
Lupus can be complex and unpredictable. Symptoms can vary widely from person to person and may come and go in flare-ups. Some of the most common symptoms include:
- Extreme fatigue
- Joint and muscle pain
- Skin rashes (often in a butterfly shape across the face)
- Sensitivity to sunlight
- Fever
- Hair loss
- Chest pain
- Swelling in the legs or around the eyes
Because the symptoms mimic other conditions, lupus is often difficult to diagnose — sometimes taking years before an accurate diagnosis is made.
Living with Lupus
A diagnosis of lupus can feel overwhelming. It often means adjusting to new limitations, managing complex medication routines, and navigating mental and emotional challenges. But with the right support, individuals with lupus can lead fulfilling, meaningful lives.
That’s where we come in.
How TrustBridge Care Supports Those Living with Lupus
At TrustBridge Care, we understand that lupus isn’t just a medical condition — it’s a lived experience. Our domiciliary care services are designed with empathy and flexibility, ensuring that individuals receive the support they need, right in the comfort of their own home.
Here’s how we at TrustBridge Care can help:
