This Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week (20–26 May 2025), we’re shining a light on the importance of awareness, early action and compassionate care.
What is Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes is a long-term condition that causes the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood to become too high. It occurs when the body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or doesn’t use insulin effectively. Unlike Type 1 diabetes, which is autoimmune, Type 2 is often linked to lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise and weight—but genetics can play a role too.
Left unmanaged, Type 2 diabetes can lead to serious health issues including heart disease, nerve damage, and vision loss. But with the right support and early intervention, it can be prevented—and even reversed in some cases.
How TrustBridge Care Supports Clients with Diabetes
At TrustBridge Care, we’re committed to delivering dignified, personalised care that empowers our clients to live well, regardless of their health conditions. For those living with diabetes, our support may include:
- Helping clients maintain a balanced diet in line with diabetic recommendations
- Encouraging regular physical activity and safe daily routines
- Monitoring signs of fluctuating blood sugar
- Coordinating with healthcare professionals
- Administering medications as prescribed
One memorable example of our hands-on commitment to quality care involved a client who required insulin injections. To ensure our carers could confidently and safely provide this essential support, a team of local District Nurses visited TrustBridge HQ to deliver in-person training. It was a powerful demonstration of collaboration—professionals working together to place our client’s health and dignity at the heart of everything we do.
What is Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week?
Prevention Week, led by Diabetes UK, aims to raise awareness of how lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. It’s a timely reminder that small daily choices—like eating healthily, staying active, and maintaining a healthy weight—can make a huge difference over time.
Prevention isn’t just about avoiding a diagnosis. It’s about helping individuals feel in control of their health and empowered to make informed decisions.
